Gavin Henderson (published 1987)


Gavin Henderson discusses the Brighton Festival, which he has been director of since 1984. The festival gives Brighton's arts and artists exposure and brings new art to the city.

Biographical note:

Born in 1948, Gavin Henderson is a native of Brighton, England and continues to reside there. He was educated at Brighton College. His father was on the college teaching staff. He was artistic director of the Brighton International Festival from 1984 to 1994. He has been Artistic Director of the Dartington International Summer School since 1985. From 1994 to 2005 he was principal of Trinity College of Music where he helped move TCM to facilites at the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich and for its merger with Laban (a school for contemporary dance) which formed Trinity Laban. He has been Chairman of the National Foundation for Youth Music, Chairman of the Arts Council of England's Music Panel, Governor of Chetham's School of Manchester and Chairman of Arts Worldwide/World Circuit Arts. In addition ot his roles as arts administrator and conductor, Henderson is also a noted trumpeter.
