Meryl Tankard (published 1986)


In this interview, Tankard details the beginning of her career at the Australian ballet, as well as her time at the Pina Bausch dance company in Germany. She also discusses her choreography and upcoming work.

Biographical note:

Tankard's professional career began as a dancer with the Australian Ballet in 1975. Early in her career she worked in Germany with Pina Bausch with her Tanztheater Wuppertal between 1978 and 1984. Throughout the 1980s Tankard was one of Bausch's principal artist and toured extensively. In 1989 Tankard was hired as director of a small company in Australia, later named the Meryl Tankard Company. In the late nineties Tankard started her career as a freelance choreographer, including an opening performance for the Sydney Olympics in 2000. In 2010, Meryl graduated from the Australian Film, Television, and Radio School with a degree in Directing and Film.
